Principal Judge Convoy Shooting Reports False
Hon. Justice Bamwine

KAMPALA: Our attention has been drawn to some online media reports about Police shooting at a vehicle said to have suspiciously trailed the Principal Judge, Hon. Justice Dr Yorokamu Bamwine's convoy on Wednesday(October 16, 2019) night around Kamyokya, Kampala.

The reports further indicate that the Police at Kira Road intercepted the said vehicle, shot andinjured one of its occupants, and arrested the other occupants, following analarm call from the security detail of the Principal Judge. The reports have been attributed to a deputy Police spokesman.

The Judiciary clarifies as follows:

1. The Hon. The Principal Judge and his security detail were not anywhere around Kamwokya or Naguru in Kampala on the date of the said incident. Hon. Justice Dr Bamwine and his team were away in Eastern Uganda on official duties between Tuesday and Friday(15-18 October 2019).

2. The Principal Judge and his security detail are neither aware nor have they reported any incident related to being trailed anywhere by suspicious people/vehicle. Any such suggestion is just alarmist and false.

3. If at all the reported shooting indeed happened, then it is a case of mistaken identity on the part of the Police.

4. The Judiciary is working with the Police to verify the source of the information and the motive behind linking the said shooting incident to the Hon. The Principal Judge.
